Counselor I

Department: Prevention
Location: Sebring, FL

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assesses needs of individuals who are at risk for substance abuse and mental health services.
2. Teaches alcohol/drug education classes and provides other educational services.
3. Performs case management functions such as maintaining case records and coordinating additional services as needed, including referral to treatment as appropriate.
4. Provides individual counseling to prevention program clients under the supervision of a Program Supervisor.
5. Acts as a group leader/facilitator during group counseling sessions.
6. Performs other reasonable and related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or administrative personnel.

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid Floridaís driverís license. It is preferred that the individual have two (2) years mental health and /or addictions treatment work experience and a general understanding of the causes, nature and treatment of substance abuse and/or mental health problems. A Bachelorís Degree in Human Services may be substituted for the two (2) years experience.
